Fiji Launches National Trade Information Portal to Boost Transparency and Efficiency

The Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications today officially launched the Fiji Trade Information Portal (TIP), a milestone initiative aimed at centralising all trade-related information to improve transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in trade facilitation.

The Portal was launched by the Permanent Secretary for Trade, Mr. Shaheen Ali, and attended by key stakeholders including Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Peter Roberts and Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation CEO Mr. Edward Bernard. Representatives from government, the private sector, the World Bank Group, and diplomatic missions were also present.

In his remarks, Mr. Ali described the TIP as “a powerful tool an enabler of economic participation and a step towards modernising the way we do trade in Fiji.”

He added that the Portal addresses long-standing challenges for businesses, particularly MSMEs, in navigating complex trade procedures.

“Let’s be honest, trade procedures in Fiji have not always been simple,” said Mr. Ali. “For too long, our traders have spent too much time chasing approvals and trying to understand complex rules.

The TIP changes that it puts clear, verified trade information at your fingertips, free of charge.”

High Commissioner Roberts highlighted Australia’s support through the World Bank’s Trade Facilitation Support Programme and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to Fiji’s economic development.

Mr. Bernard noted that digital solutions like the TIP are critical to easing the administrative burden on local businesses and enhancing competitiveness.

The launch of the TIP is part of a broader trade facilitation reform program, which includes the upcoming National Single Window System a unified digital platform for managing all import/export transactions.
